Patient Success Story: Kim

Cannabidiol, a chemical structure found in the cannabis plant and commonly known as CBD, has helped countless patients. Many are drawn to the medicine for its ability to alleviate the symptoms of many conditions, without the psychoactive effect of THC. Those utilizing CBD may find relief from pain, seizures, tremors and it has even been considered as an effective anti-anxiety aid.

While many individuals have been touched by the benefits of CBD, Kim, a patient at High Mountain Health, is an exceptional case.

Kim is 64 years old. 15 years ago, he was in a severe car accident, during which he sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Coupled with this injury, Kim also inherited a genetic neurological disorder. Due to the combination of these conditions, balancing and speech can be difficult. Kim also deals with anxiety on a daily basis, as a result of the PTSD. Doctors have suggested trying pharmaceutical options to help, however, he was wary.

"I only recently started in psychotherapy for the related anxiety and that is helping," says Kim. "Pharmaceutical help has been suggested, but the number and severity of possible side effects were more than I was willing to accept."

After some online research, Kim discovered CBD therapy. He noticed CBD was naturally derived and is proven to be a safe alternative to the pharmaceuticals he was offered. Deciding to give CBD a shot, Kim realized just how beneficial this plant medicine can be. Kim visited High Mountain Health to explore some of the CBD options. He settled on a CBD tincture. After only a single dosage, Kim experienced a dramatic improvement.

"Before trying CBD, a couple of months ago, I needed a cane to walk," Kim says. "Within a few hours of taking just one dropper of the CBD oil under my tongue, I was and still am able to walk without using my cane for each and every step."

Now, Kim is able to manage many of the symptoms of the TBI, the neurological condition, and PTSD. He has truly taken his health into his own hands, even creating a personalized schedule to administer the CBD drops.

"After some experimentation, I've found that 1/2 dropper of the CBD oil at 5:00 a.m.(when I normally get up), 1/2 dropper at 8:30 a.m., and another 1/2 dropper at 11:00 a.m. [work well for me.] All are administered sublingually."

"My speech, before using CBD, was often slurred and hard to understand, even for me," Kim adds. "The CBD has made my speech sound nearly 'normal.'"

Kim is among many of our patients who choose CBD to manage a multitude of conditions. CBD is incredible for its ability to address a variety of complicated and often hard-to-treat symptoms. At High Mountain Health, we are thrilled to introduce patients, including Kim, to CBD and other cannabis therapy that works best for them.

"[I'm] not intending to sound overly dramatic," Kim concludes. "But I feel like I'm getting my life back."
