#hmhhighereducation - June 2021

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurological disease characterized by a progressive loss of memory and learned behavior. Patients with AD are also likely to experience depression, agitation, appetite loss, among other symptoms. As many as 5.8 million Americans are estimated to be afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. No approved treatments or medications are available to modulate the progression of Alzheimer's and few pharmaceuticals effectively treat symptoms.

In recent studies, CBD has shown reductions or removals of inflammation, oxygen buildup, and brain cell decline. CBD also increases the levels of proteins that eliminate dead cells and plaques in brains with AD, improving both memory and motor function.
